Welcome to Halliwick Penguins Swimming Club website.

We are a swimming club, run entirely on a voluntary basis, for people with a disability of whatever type and for people of whatever age.

Using the Halliwick Concept (formerly the Halliwick Method) and through the 10-point programme, we teach water safety and independence in the water.

Initially and depending on a swimmer's individual needs, teaching and instruction will be on a one-to-one basis and there is a structured system of teaching using a series of specially devised proficiency badges. Our instructors are trained in teaching swimming with the Halliwick Concept and work under the supervision of our Chief Instructor and Senior and Tutor Instructors.

Ultimately, a swimmer will feel happy and safe in the water and will swim independently. A number of our swimmers go on to represent the club in competition at local, regional and national level.

We are affiliated both to the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy (
Halliwick AST) and to Southern Counties ASA (SCASA). We are a registered charity.

The club is run on a membership basis only. The club is also run entirely on a voluntary basis. Unfortunately, due to limited instructors and a high demand for membership, there is a waiting list. However, we try as best we can to meet demand. New instructors and helpers as well as swimmers are always welcome!
